On December 12th of each year is the Mexican Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Lady of Guadalupe is the Patron Saint of Mexico. On this day every year, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe located at the foot of Tepeiyake will always hold big religious ceremonies.
The Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe is the most important religious festival in Mexico. Millions of believers will bring along with them the young and the old, and make a long and difficult journey to make a formal visit to the original statue of Lady of Guadalupe.
The Mexican people each hold the memory of their Lady of Guadalupe in their own way. Those of the Indian culture celebrate for a whole month by performing traditional dances. So if you are in Mexico this month, you will see great traditional cultural activities and dancing taking place. I had many mixed emotions of this particular festival. I was impressed and inspired by the dedication and beliefs that these people had in making the hard trek with their loved ones to visit their beloved statue. People from all over the world come to attend this festival. In fact there are thousands upon thousands that attend it and a great deal of preparation is undertaken by Mexico City for it.
Like any of the other festivals that take place in Mexico City this one is truly an event to remember. The standard atmosphere of this city is one of joy and true celebration of life. As such all of the festivities that are held hold this concept. It is really quite unique to see a culture that can pay reverence to their religious beliefs and combine it with a festivity. This is one of the very important and wonderful things about paying a visit to Mexico City.
