It's difficult for sports lovers to go on vacation and not include at least some type of sporting events. Those vacationing in Mexico City will have the opportunity to do this. When I arrived in Mexico City on my first visit the first thing I did was check out the sporting events. I was pleased to learn that soccer was their most favored. Needless to say, I went in search of tickets to have the chance to watch a home game. I discovered that there were three teams here, Los Pumas, Club America and Cruz Azul.
Plans were made for me to watch Club America play at the Aztec Stadium here in Mexico City. I don't know what led me to believe that this was going to be a small event. I was amazed and shocked when I arrived at the stadium to find its seating capacity of over 100,000 was booked solid. In addition to this, I learned that the University's stadium holds in excess of 70,000 seats. My thoughts of the Mexicans not being into sports was soon put to rest. Although a little overwhelmed with the crowds I found the Aztec Stadium most impressive and handled the massive crowd quite easily.
I was pleased to learn that baseball was also a favorite sport here so made a mental note to attend a baseball game on my next visit.
By combining my need for sports with the great cuisine that I was able to enjoy after the game, I would have to say that I had one of many perfect days during my vacation in Mexico City. No doubt, there is much more to see of Mexico besides the City. The problem is the City is bursting with so much to see and do, that there just is not enough time to see all there is in one vacation. This answers the question as to why so many people return to Mexico City time and time again.
