Once you have made a visit to Palacio Nacional you will see why it is such a renowned place to “must see” when visiting Mexico City. Being the home of the Mexican Government attributes to much of its grandeur and beauty. Although there is many awe-inspiring things to see here what most likely will attract you the most is the murals by Diego Rivera. I spend a great deal of time just taking in the beauty of this art. Between the years of 1929 and 1945 is when these paintings were done, and are just as exquisite today as they must have been in their time. It is said that it took Diego over sixteen years to paint the palace walls with some assistance by his associates.
The walsl cry out the history of Mexico depicting any person of importance as well as significant events to take place in Mexico. It is hard to believe and you probably won’t believe it till you see it with your own eyes, but there are 2000 years of history that can be taken in just by viewing one of these magnificent Palace walls. This is provided by what the Epic of the Mexican People in their Struggle for Freedom and Independence portrays on these walls. If one does not know the background of the Mexican people then here is a great place to learn. No doubt, you will find new found respect for the Mexicans and their hard-earned culture.
Just being able to stand on the very ground of the Palacio Nacional brings a seriousness to the time period and what this very place stands for and represents. It really is a breath-taking place to visit and is on the top of my list for my next visit to Mexico City.
