Plaza de la Constitucion, commonly known as Zócalo in the Centro Historico (Historic Downtown) is one of the largest squares in the world, surrounded by historic buildings, including the City Hall and the Cathedral.
This is the main public plaza of Mexico District Federal and the epicenter for events, festivals and protests. It is located in the Historic Center of Ciudad de Mexico and into the Delegacion Cuauhtemoc. The plaza is equally recognized as the Zócalo, which means pedestal. At one time destined as a monument to Independence.
The Line number 2 of the Metro is located there.
The Museo Templo Mayor is also there.
Mexico city is comprised of 16 "Delegaciones" with independent authorities. In conjunction, they form what is known as the Distrito Federal or DF, and is one of the most populated cities in the world.
