The Great Temple (Templo Mayor)

Mexico City

It’s ironic when two separate individuals vacation in Mexico City and relate their excursions and it sounds like they were in two different Countries. This is because there is so much to see and do in Mexico City that the interests are diversified. One thing that most have in common though is a visit to the Great Temple. That is  of course that this took place after 1978. This was the time frame of this discovery by a group of workmen that had no idea what significant event was about to enter their lives.

Their first discovery was a stone figure of what was known as the Aztec moon goddess
Coyolxauhqui. This one discovery was enough to create an archilogical dig which soon unearthed many other treasures. Many of these you can see with your own eyes when you visit the Great Temple. This is one of the few places that truly has the ability to take you back in time. You will find it hard to comprehend the detailed structure of the Pyramid of Huitzilopochtli (Templo Mayor or Great Temple). The Spaniards once looked upon this in the 16th century when they arrived here. Here you are going to be able to see what the Aztec empire of years ago was really like.

Although I appreciate history it’s not one of my fortes, but I would have to say that this was one historical adventure that I was most intrigued with. I found many of the details that I learned here most fascinating.

This is one sight-seeing venue that is important for families that really want to give their children a first hand lesson in history. One thing is for certain what the kids learn here is going to be far more effective than anything the history books can teach them.
